01What we build
The room you'll use most from May to October.
Every patio starts with how you want to use it: dinner for six, a fire on a Friday night, somewhere for the kids to land when they come out of the pool. Then we pick the material and the shape to fit the yard and the house.
Paver patios
Belgard and Unilock in any pattern, border or inlay. The most patio for the money, and easy to repair if a paver ever cracks.
Natural stone
Bluestone, granite, fieldstone and travertine. Stone that looks like it's always been there.
Fire pits & seat walls
Built into the patio, sized for the chairs you actually own. Wood-burning or gas-ready.
Steps & landings
Granite and block steps from the back door down to the patio, built to code.
Pool decks
Paver decks and coping around new pools, or tear-out and rebuild of tired brick and concrete.

02Under the surface
A patio is only as good as what's under it.
Most patios that sink, heave or wobble were built on a thin base over soft soil. You can't see the base once it's done, so it's the easiest place to cut corners. We don't.
- We dig out, not just down
- Topsoil and organic material come out. They hold water and settle.
- Compacted in lifts
- The base goes in and gets compacted in layers, not all at once.
- Pitched to drain
- A slight slope away from the house so water runs off, not in.
- Locked edges
- Edge restraint keeps the field from creeping, and joint sand locks it tight.

You don't need a huge budget to get it built right.
A small patio gets the same dig-out, the same base and the same crew as a whole backyard. Tell us what you want to spend and we'll show you what fits, or build it in phases so you're not paying for everything at once.

We install Belgard and Unilock, and work with bluestone, granite and fieldstone. We'll bring samples to the site so you can see them next to your house, not on a screen.

How much does a patio cost?
It depends on size, material and the site: how much digging, how far we carry material, whether there are steps or walls. A simple paver patio costs a lot less than bluestone with seat walls and a fire pit. We give free on-site estimates with a written price, and we can phase bigger projects over more than one season.
Pavers or natural stone?
Pavers give you more color and pattern choices, a consistent surface, and they're easy to lift and reset. Bluestone and granite have the natural look a lot of North Shore homes call for. Both last when the base is right. We'll bring samples and show you finished jobs in both.
Will my patio heave or sink after a winter?
Frost heave and sinking almost always come from the base: not dug out enough, not compacted, or no way for water to drain. We remove the organic soil, build a compacted crushed-stone base in layers, pitch the patio to drain and lock the edges.
How long does it take?
Most patios take a few days to a couple of weeks on site, depending on size, access and add-ons like walls, steps or a fire pit. You'll get a timeline with your quote.
Can I add a fire pit or outdoor kitchen later?
Yes. Tell us what you might want down the road and we'll leave room for it, and plan for any gas or electric that would need to run under the patio.
Do I need a permit?
It depends on the town and the project, especially near wetlands or with taller retaining walls. We'll flag anything that needs a permit when we quote.
Do you seal pavers?
Yes. Sealing brings back the color and helps with stains and weeds in the joints. Paver sealing →
