01What we build
The first thing guests see, and the path you use every day.
A front walk sets the tone for the whole house. A side path saves you walking through wet grass. Steps that are all the same height stop people tripping. We build all of it, from a short path to the back gate to a new front entry with steps and a landing.
Front walks
Straight or curved, from the driveway to the front door, wide enough for two people side by side.
Curved & garden paths
Paths that follow the beds and the lay of the yard instead of cutting straight across it.
Stepping stones
Bluestone or flagstone set in grass or gravel. A simple, lower-cost path to the side gate or the shed.
Granite & block steps
Solid granite or block steps and landings, with even risers so nobody trips.

Paver driveways and cobblestone aprons, built on a deeper base to carry cars.
02Built to be walked on
A walkway only works if it stays flat.
Walks take more abuse than patios: every day foot traffic, snow shovels, salt and the occasional car tire. We build them on the same compacted base as our patios, and we sweat the details you notice every time you walk them.
- Dug out and compacted
- Organic soil out, crushed-stone base compacted in layers, so nothing sinks or heaves.
- Pitched to shed water
- A slight cross-slope so water runs off instead of freezing on the surface.
- Even steps
- Every riser the same height. Uneven steps are the ones people trip on.
- Locked edges
- Edge restraint keeps pavers from spreading into the lawn over time.

We install Belgard and Unilock pavers and work with bluestone, granite, brick and flagstone. We'll bring samples out so you can see them next to your front steps and siding.

How wide should a front walk be?
Wide enough for two people to walk side by side is a good target for a front walk, which usually lands around 4 to 5 feet. Side paths to a gate or shed can be narrower. We'll lay it out on the ground first so you can see the width before anything is built.
Can you replace my cracked concrete walk?
Yes. We break out and haul away the old concrete, fix the base underneath, and build the new walk in pavers or stone. If the old walk was sinking or pitching toward the house, we correct that too.
Will pavers heave in the winter?
Not when the base is built right. We dig out the soft soil, compact a crushed-stone base in layers, and pitch the walk so water runs off. Why patios and walks heave →
Do steps need a handrail?
It depends on the number of steps and your town's building code. We build steps to code and will tell you on the site visit whether a railing is needed.
Can you add lighting to a walkway?
Yes. Low-voltage path and step lights are easiest to add while the walk is being built, because the wire can run under it. Landscape lighting →
Do you build paver driveways?
Yes, paver driveways and cobblestone aprons. They get a deeper base than a walkway because they carry cars.
